Long Lake Fire Still Out Of Control

August 31, 2025 Update

USPA NEWS - The resources committed to the effort encompass 10 helicopters, 6 planes with bird dogs, 16 Department of Natural Resources personnel, 48 Ontario firefighters, 40 Quebec firefighters, and 59 local firefighters. About 50 pieces of heavy machinery are presently in service, with more being released as dozer line stretches are completed.
The Long Lake wildfires complex remains uncontained. The revised estimated size is 8,465 hectares, based on more accurate measurements. There are no new reports of damage. Favourable weather conditions are facilitating significant progress for crews, but they have not yet completed a perimeter around the entire fire zone.
Fire breaks along some sections of the perimeter are nearing completion. Work is focused on the northern end of the fire to prevent spread toward communities and allow firefighters to advance from the outside in to fight the fire. The aim is to get evacuees home as soon as possible.
The Long Lake wildfires complex outline remains largely unchanged from our previous map https://novascotia.ca/alerts/docs/Long-Lake.pdf. Unfortunately, we cannot display hot spots within it, as they are constantly appearing and being extinguished by aircraft and crews.
Woods restrictions have been lifted in Cape Breton, Richmond, Victoria, Inverness, Guysborough, Antigonish, and Halifax counties. However, the provincewide burn ban remains in place until October 15 or until conditions improve further.
